Vision, perseverance and hard work represent the perfect trinomial of frank rainieri, the dominican who, since 1970, has refined his ability to capture the potential of a jungle in the east of the country – considered by many to be an inaccessible paradise in the absence of roads-. He followed his intuition to take advantage of the strongest industry in his country: tourism, and now, he generates billions of dollars to the national economy, hundreds of thousands of decent jobs and opportunities for new generations.
In 1971, he partnered with the entrepreneur Theodore W. Kheel (co-founder of the Tourism Development Company, Residencial y Industrial SA CODDETREISA, today Grupo Puntacana S.A.) and some North American investors, and set up the first construction in ten kilometers of the virgin beach; it was the Punta Cana Club hotel that consisted of ten cabins, a clubhouse, a restaurant, a villa for the collaborators and a landing strip for small planes.

“It was a jungle; there was nothing. When I built the first hotel, I built the first aqueduct, the first power plant, then the roads, the airport, schools, villages, etc. The state was not interested in this region, we had to build it all”, says the businessman who faced the needs that arose on the fly, was forced to diversify his company and today, in addition to having transformed that small hotel into a luxury resort club, and having made an exotic jungle by the sea one of the most important summer destinations in the Caribbean, has a richness composed of other exquisite housing constructions, such as Tortuga Bay, La Marina and La Casa Club de Golf, which have the elegant and discreet thread of the legendary designer Oscar de la Renta, who “more than a partner, was a close relative who collaborated in all the projects we undertook”, besides being the inspiration for the most recent construction of the great family Puntacana: the Oscar de la Renta Pediatric Center, inaugurated in 2017 in Verón (Punta Cana).
“Children were (Oscar de La Renta’s) his passion, and we had talked about the construction of a Pediatric Hospital; when he left, we built it and decided that it could not have another name than that of Oscar de la Renta“, adds the businessman who, in addition to having the construction of the Punta Cana International Airport, has been a pioneer in sustainable tourism through the Puntacana Ecological
Foundation, which covers “from the recycling of water and organic matter, to the planting of coral. Social and environmental responsibility are as important as the dividends to pay,” says Rainieri, who thinks luxury is being able to share with his collaborators while wearing the company’s shirt and khaki pants and traveling with his family.
